Privacy Policy

PlaceTally ("we", "us") is a travel tracking application operated by Volodymyr Vovchenko. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what your rights are. The short version: we collect only what the product needs, we don't run ads, and we never sell your data.

Data we collect

Account data

When you create an account we store your email address, an optional display name, and your authentication credentials. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email and basic profile information from Google; we never see your Google password.

Travel data you enter

The core of PlaceTally is data you choose to enter: places, stays, day trips, dates, notes, and optional spending amounts. This data is private to your account unless you explicitly enable a public share page (see below).

Payment data

Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers. We store only your subscription status and, via Stripe, a record of your transactions.

Guest mode

Guest mode stores all travel data in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to our servers until you create an account and choose to migrate your data. Preferences (distance unit, currency, residency thresholds) are also kept in local storage for all users.

Analytics

We use Swetrix, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand aggregate usage (page views, referrers, country-level location). It is cookieless and does not track you across sites or build individual profiles.

Cookies

We use only essential cookies: the session cookies required to keep you signed in. There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Service providers

We share data with the following processors, only as needed to run the service:

Supabase — authentication and database hosting
Stripe — payment processing
Mapbox — map display and location search (your browser communicates with Mapbox directly, which exposes your IP address to them)
Google — optional sign-in
Swetrix — privacy-friendly analytics
Resend — transactional email (confirmations, account notices)
jsDelivr / Frankfurter — currency exchange rates (your browser fetches public rate data; no personal data is sent)

We never sell your data or share it with advertisers.

Public share pages

Sharing is off by default. If you enable a public share page, the travel statistics you choose become visible to anyone with your share link. You can disable sharing at any time in Settings, which immediately takes the page offline.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time in Settings → Danger Zone. Deletion is immediate and irreversible, and also cancels any active subscription. You can also email us at support@placetally.com and we will delete your account for you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under GDPR and CCPA), you have the right to access, correct, export, and delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly in the app; for anything else, email us and we will respond within 30 days.

Data location and security

Our servers and databases are hosted in the United States and Europe. Data is encrypted in transit, and database access is protected by row-level security so your data is only readable by your account.

Children

PlaceTally is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes we will update the effective date above and, for significant changes, notify you by email or an in-app notice.
